Public schools remain the number one choice of teachers heading to Korea & China. The positions are reliable and overseen by large agencies, who have been approved by the government. Public schools are a great option for both new and veteran teachers, due to the light schedule and excellent vacation options.

PUBLIC SCHOOLS KOREA

  1.  EPIK now includes all public school jobs in Korea. The demand is high and positions are filled on a 1st-come-1st-served basis. 

  2. Applications should be submitted 4-5 months in advance

  3. Intakes are for March 1st & September 1st

  4. One Native English Teacher per school, but you will teach with a Korean co-teacher

  5. Create your own lesson plans

  6. Salary starts at 2,000,000 KRW and is determined on a scale.

  7. Schedule includes 22 - 45 minute classes per week, plus office hours.

  8. 18 days of paid vacation days, plus national holidays

PUBLIC SCHOOLS CHINA

  1. All hiring for public schools is done by government approved agencies.

  2. Applications can be accepted 2-7 months in advance

  3. Intakes are for March/April & September/October, but start dates can be more flexible.

  4. Schools can have anywhere from 1-5 native English teachers & usually a Korean co-teacher

  5. Create your own lesson plans

  6. Salary ranges from 9,000 RMB - 13,000 RMB per month + 3,000 RMB housing allowance (free housing sometimes available)

  7. Maximum of 18 - 40 minute classes per week, plus office hours. Hours are Monday - Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm (incl. 2 hour lunch break).

  8. Vacation of 3.5 months (paid, partially paid or unpaid)
